Valley grew up as four mill villages strung along the Chattahoochee, and its water tells that history. There are river docks on the reaches below West Point Dam, sloughs at the upper end of Lake Harding where the river starts to pool, and inside the old villages a scattering of mill-era ponds that have been settling out for a century. Each is a different dredging problem, and we work all three.
The river reaches run on West Point Dam’s release schedule, so dock work there gets assessed case by case with a depth check before we commit a quote. The upper Harding sloughs behave like any reservoir headwater, catching the river’s load as the current dies, and slips there price inside the standard published ranges. The old ponds are volume jobs, quoted from a sediment survey like any farm or stormwater pond.
What stays constant is the process: sounding first, permits filed before work, sealed suction lines, and geotextile dewatering so the Chattahoochee gets clear water back. On a river with Valley’s textile history, nobody needs a contractor sending a mud plume downstream, and our method never does.

The upper-Harding sloughs around Valley are where the Chattahoochee first slows after the West Point tailrace, and they collect load from two states’ worth of watershed. Slips there silt faster than the lake’s mid-reservoir average, and we quote them with the same depth margin we use on creek arms, digging past target so the interval between dredges stretches.

Can you dredge at a river dock below West Point Dam?
Sometimes. Current, generation releases, and what the bottom is made of decide it, so river docks start with a $300 to $800 depth check rather than a phone estimate. Where suction work is not practical we say so plainly and you are out nothing but the survey fee.
There is an old pond on former mill property I own. Is a century of sediment even removable?
Yes, though the survey matters more than usual. Long-settled ponds can hold debris and, on industrial land, sediment that needs testing before it can be spread or hauled. We sample first, then quote removal with the disposal path already answered.
